John B. King Letters, 1943-1946, undated

Title

John B. King Letters, 1943-1946, undated

Description

The John B. King Letters, held by the Archives of Appalachia at East Tennessee State University, consist of over 200 letters and V-mails written between August 1943 and January 1946, mainly to his parents, Minnie L. Gass King and Grover C. King in Afton, Tennessee. In the letters, he discusses his World War II work in hospital wards and elsewhere while stationed in Camp Barkeley, Texas, and Moluccas and Morotai in the Netherland East Indies. Correspondence is often regarding work on the family farm: buying, raising and selling pigs and cattle, killing hogs, gardening, canning, setting out crops of corn and tobacco, and renting out homes. Other King family members represented in the collection are Helen King Barger and Bobby Barger. Letters from individuals other than John King are noted.

The current digital collection contains PDF file surrogates created in 2024 of the complete content of the collection.
