The Dante History Project Records, held by the Archives of Appalachia at East Tennessee State University, consists of materials gathered as part of a community-based research effort in 1997-1998 to document the history of Dante, Va. The collection includes oral history recordings, typed transcripts, and 35 mm photographic negatives. Subjects covered in the collection include railroad and coal mining development and operations, education, farming, health issues, segregation, religious activities, and various other social, cultural, and economic issues related to the development and history of Dante between the late 19th century and the late 20th century.

The current digital collection includes surrogates of the collection's 976 photographic negatives and a searchable PDF file of complete transcripts for all 74 oral history interviews.
