Title

Judge Samuel C. Williams Notes and Typescript, 1946

Description

The Judge Samuel C. Williams Notes and Typescript, held by the Archives of Appalachia at East Tennessee State University, consists of photocopies of Williams' manuscript notes of early issues of Benjamin Lundy's The Genius of Universal Emancipation (referred to by Williams as The Genesis of Universal Emancipation) and Embree's History of the Emancipation Society of Tennessee, as well as the typescript of the same. The collection also includes a letter from Williams concerning his notes and two letters to William Flinn Rogers concerning the publication history of The Genius of Universal Emancipation. The letters are also copied in the typescript. His intent was to write a paper on the abolition movement in Tennessee, but instead passed his notes to colleges in East Tennessee in hopes that someone else would make use of them.

The current digital collection includes surrogates of the complete content of the collection.
