'Mama Bird' - First Lady of Flight - Evelyn Bryan Johnson
They called her the Amelia Earhart of Morristown, Tennessee. Evelyn Stone Bryan Johnson was a woman of faith and a legend in her own time. She was a pilot and FAA examiner well into her 90s, and she managed an airport until her death at the age of 102.
This exhibit is a story of inspiration taken from the rich collection of the Evelyn Bryan Johnson Papers housed in the Archives of Appalachia. This is a story about "Mama Bird" - a woman who paved her own way, on her own terms, and in her own time, through a field dominated by men.
