Come All You Coal Miners

"Come All You Coal Miners" is one of nine presentations in the Appalachian Outreach Program, developed by the Archives of Appalachia in 1979-1980. The presentation brings together the varied and rich music of the southern Appalachian coal fields and features an extensive series of slides taken by Helen Lewis of coal miners, their families, and life in the mines and coal camps. Through the songs, ballads and narrative portions of this slide-tape production (converted to VHS in 1988 and digitized in 2009), one derives a sense of the spirit and human effort that have been so much a part of coal mining in the Appalachian region over the years.
