A Johnson City Album

“A Johnson City Album” is one of nine presentations in the Appalachian Outreach Program, developed by the Archives of Appalachia in 1979-1980. The presentation combines the reminiscences of four local people with photographs of Johnson City from its early days through the 1970s. While the speakers relate personal experiences, the four stories join with the photographs to illustrate significant themes in Johnson City's development. These include the influence of changing modes of transportation, the development of educational institutions, changing styles of popular entertainment, industrial and commercial development, and the changing look of Main Street through the years.
