Episode One: Living on the Tennessee Line

“Living on the Tennessee Line” is the first of three programs in the radio series Tennessee’s Mountain Heritage, produced by the Archives of Appalachia in 1982-1983.  It features recollections of life in the Tennessee mountains, taken from interviews with Mr. George Payne.  Payne discusses his childhood in Greene County, including farming, the first cookstove he remembers, the kinds of food his family ate, and the games his family played at gatherings with neighbors.  The program also features several selections of old-time string band music played by Payne and his two brothers.  It was first broadcast on Johnson City’s public radio station WETS on May 1, 1983.
