“Rolling Down the Track” is the second of three programs in the radio series Tennessee’s Mountain Heritage, produced by the Archives of Appalachia in 1982-1983.  It features interviews with Mr. James A. Goforth of Erwin, TN.  Goforth was the retired Chief Engineer of the Clinchfield Railroad, and he discusses the history and development of railroads in upper East Tennessee as well as the effect that the railroads had on the area.  The program also includes several musical selections from rare recordings of railroad work songs from the Archives of Appalachia’s Thomas G. Burton-Ambrose N. Manning Collection.  It was first broadcast on Johnson City’s public radio station on May 8, 1983.
