Bela Fleck, Tony Trischka, and Bill Keith at The Birchmere

This recording of Bela Fleck, Tony Trischka, and Bill Keith was made on May 22, 1982 at the Birchmere - one of Washington D.C.'s key venues for bluegrass in the 1970s and 1980s. Members of the band include Bela Fleck, Tony Trischka, and Bill Keith on banjo, Russ Barenberg on guitar, Matt Glaser on fiddle, Andy Statman on mandolin, and Larry Cohen on bass. Songs selected include "Hey Mr. Banjo," "Flint Hill Special," "Polka Dots and Moonbeams," an improvisational tune, and an Irish jig.

The recording highlights the stylistic banjo playing that Fleck is known for and includes a number of songs that are not commonly performed by bluegrass musicians but instead were adapted to the genre by Fleck, Trischka, and Keith.
