The Shaky Deal Jug Band was a New York ensemble that featured Richard’s singing. He was also the fiddler for the group. The eccentric band was relatively short-lived, but played several high-profile shows including opening for Judy Collins at New York’s Town Hall. The band also played at the Bitter End, Cafe Wha?, and other well-known folk music venues during the 1960s.

The recordings here are from a collection of studio demos the band made. The group never made an official recording, but we are fortunate to have this rare document of the 1960s New York folk scene.

Shaky Deal Jug Band features Richard Blaustein (fiddle, vocals), Pete Edinoff (mandolin), Eric Kaz (piano, vocals) Gary LaPow (guitar, vocals), Peter Miller (guitar, kazoo, vocals), Chuck Mittman (harmonica), and David Schiffman (washboard).
